today I learned:

  • in 1994, bill gates bought the da vinci codex for $30 million, then scanned it and distributed it as screensavers and wallpapers for windows95.
  • warner brothers studios didn’t like the idea of jack nicholson’s character dying in mars attacks, so tim burton gave nicholson two different characters and killed them both.
  • some gilligan’s island viewers had no idea the show was scripted and sent letters to the coast guard urging them to rescue everybody on the island.
  • the netherlands are in the process of building “smart highways”. on them, there will be glowing markings that will illuminate the road when adverse conditions appear, and an electric priority lane which will charge electric cars AS THEY DRIVE!!!!! …it’s gonna be ready for service soon, too!
